About the author

Life lasts only a moment, yet even in that moment there is time to understand how it works, if you look at it calmly and all the way through. But the calm does not last long: something keeps distracting you, and your gaze slides on without settling on anything. Here I talk about what I have had time to make out, and about the meanings I work from. What I would like is to support those who drop in here, and perhaps to help someone notice a weak spot before it lets them down.
Each of us has places in life where everything is fine and places where it is not so good. Much of it took shape by itself: something came along, something appealed to us, and the rest we got used to and have long counted as our own. We rarely stop to wonder why things work out in one place and not in another. Sometimes we put all our eggs in one basket and then give the basket a shake as well. And then some small thing we failed to allow for at the time sets us back. That is what I write about: what lies behind such small things, and how one thing pulls another along with it.
The notes remind you of what is easy to walk past, and underline it. Everyone will read them in their own way and take whatever is of use to them.
When time is short, the headings and the lines in bold are enough: the main points are set out in them. The notes end with questions, and you can answer them to yourself, without showing anyone anything. And if you disagree with something, or a question of your own comes up, write to me through the “Write to the author” form under any note.
There are no names in the notes. They add nothing to the conclusions, and without other people’s names it is easier to recognise yourself in what is written.
Behind every conclusion is something that happens in the life of any one of us, and you can test it against your own experience, whatever your age. Nothing here is built on rumour or hearsay.
Everything you send through the form under a note or on the contact page comes to my inbox and is not published on the site.
